Overall, the River Rock Casino Resort receives mixed reviews, with some praising its convenient location, spacious rooms, and amenities like the pool and casino. However, recurring concerns include outdated facilities, inconsistent service, and issues with cleanliness and maintenance. Recent reviews highlight problems with elevator malfunctions, unexpected fees, and staff interactions, particularly concerning casino employee behavior and perceived discrimination.
This was honestly one of the worse “high end” hotel experiences I have had in BC over the last 5 years… We rented a Suite on the 9th floor and, well, definitely not the standard that you would expect. 1. The TVs are old with no way to stream anything (in this day and age it should be a basic set up for any decent hotel). 2. The room was “clean” but definitely not well cared for with a lamp not working, the couch had stains on it, baseboards seem to have not been cleaned in quite some time, etc… and all that was seen without even trying to find things wrong… And the most awkward point - 3. My wife and I went for a little casino evening and spent an amount that we considered decent in 1 evening. After playing a few games here and there we decided to go to the roulette table and just use a $2 coin that I had in my pocket to make a last bet on a number. You know, just a last little bet. Well, apparently that was too cheap for the employee who was in charge of the table and decided to make fun of my wife by pointing out to other clients how cheap that was. The other clients of the casino were nice enough to try making light of it and to not have her embarrassed but he then pointed out that this was a “minimum $40” buy-in. (Which we know for a fact is not true as we played at the table opposite to his 15min before that interaction). I wish I had taken his name but I only found that out from my wife afterward and when I went to get his information he was already replaced. Anyway, all and all the restaurants are incredible but the hotel and the casino are definitely not what you are made to believe. Recommendation, save the money on the room and the casino and enjoy a delicious dinner or lunch with an awesome restaurant staff who will make your experience beautiful!
Good location, easy access to skytrain friendly staff but their casino isn’t really worth the hype. Everything is super expensive, even though you pay the resort fee you don’t get to have free breakfast/lunch or even complimentary small appetizers. I liked the hotel, great place to stay but unless I have to be around richmond I don’t think so I will come back to this place again. I will go with the different hotel next time. Lastly, pool is great, and warm I really liked the gym.
Overall a solid casino destination with a fun atmosphere, good variety of games, and a lively vibe that makes it worth a visit — I’d rate it 4 out of 5 stars. The gaming floor is extensive and the staff are generally friendly, making it enjoyable for a night out. However, I did notice some infrastructure around the outside feels a bit unmaintained, and a few areas look like they could use some TLC. Inside, some of the carpet feels rippled and there are patches where repairs look mismatched, which slightly detracts from an otherwise good experience. Still a great spot for entertainment and games, just has a few cosmetic issues that could be improved.
We recently stayed at River Rock Casino Resort to celebrate my mom’s 50th birthday weekend, and unfortunately what should have been a special celebration turned into a very concerning experience. Prior to arrival, my mom called ahead to confirm that my sister and I would be allowed to check into the room early to decorate, even though the reservation was in my mom’s name. She was assured this would not be an issue. However, when we arrived, we still experienced difficulties accessing the room to decorate, and were told we should have had a form filled out in advance. This added unnecessary stress at the start of the weekend. Dinner at the Chairman’s Lounge was the highlight of our stay. The food was absolutely delicious, and our server (I believe her name was Fatima) was incredible — warm, personable, and accommodating. She even allowed us in a bit early to decorate, which we truly appreciated. Unfortunately, things took a serious turn after dinner. Several of our family members and friends got into the elevator to return to the room, and the elevator malfunctioned. It became stuck and began dropping floors while they were inside. The individuals were understandably distressed. The emergency communication through the elevator was not calming or reassuring. What was most alarming is that the elevator was not shut down afterward. Almost immediately after our group exited, another couple with young children was allowed to use the same elevator while staff turned their heads and did nothing. The distressed guests were taken to first aid and properly evaluated, but they were terrified to use the elevator again and needed to take the stairs. Security arrived and stated they had to escort them to their room, as guests were not permitted to use the stairwell unaccompanied. We found this strange and concerning, especially in what could have been an emergency situation. Halfway through climbing five flights of stairs, they were stopped again because security did not have a key — the stairwell was locked. Being trapped once more after an elevator malfunction was unacceptable and extremely unsafe. We were offered 20% off the rooms and $50 food vouchers, but given the severity of the situation, this felt completely insufficient. When speaking with the manager at checkout the following morning, I asked why the elevator was immediately put back into use after malfunctioning. He did not have an answer. I also asked about emergency procedures, particularly regarding locked stairwells, and he could not clearly explain the protocol. This experience was deeply concerning. The safety procedures appeared unclear, inconsistently followed, and potentially non-compliant with safety regulations. We are pursuing formal complaints because this is not something that should be ignored. A 50th birthday celebration should not involve guests fearing for their safety. We sincerely hope serious changes are made to prevent this from happening to anyone else.
So, the hotel looked nice and big, was attached to a casino, however, im not sure if they are connected or if we were just being given a hard time by staff on the casino side. Because they acted as if it was a problem, with us entering the hotel from the casino side (everyone was over 21 in our group). As a black person, I would never stay here again, as we were treated very different and I know it was because we were black. And surprisingly, the mistreatment came from all Asians working on the casino side. We were not allowed to go through the casino unless we showed the doorman a credit card, along with our ID's. And while looking for all of that, groups of other races were entering past us with no issues, they were not asked for this information, like we were. The room that we booked was a suite with 2 rooms and a living room, which was perfect...because it was my husband and I, and my brother in law and his wife. We stayed 1 night and the cost of the room was $400 candian dollars. They had a starbucks in the hotel, a gift shop and like a mini convenience store, which was nice. This rating would've been a 5 star post, had your staff just treated us (your guests) with respect. Never will i stay here again! This happened back in February 2023, and i am just getting around to doing this review!
Had an excellent time 2nd year in a row I have stayed at the RiverRock for my WCTA conference. Taisaiin checked me in and made sure my room had a soaker tub. My flight was diverted along the way and I spent 9 hours on a plane. The service of all the hotel employees was excellent. I really enjoyed the fitness area and the pool and the hot tub.
Location was perfect for us, close to the train to airport, bus from the ferry and anywhere else we needed to go. We stayed in the 1 bedroom suite, the room was spacious and clean but dated and everything had lots of visible wear. Tv did not have Netflix or anything which was a bit disappointing. Mattress was terrible, and the blanket for the pull out couch was very rough. the pillows and linens on the king bed were nice though. The pool and hot tub looked nice and my kid was very excited about the water slide, only to find out there was a height minimum that she didn’t reach. The pool water was absolutely freezing cold!!! And there were no towels or staff available when we used the facilities so we ended up walking back to our hotel room without drying off. We used the hot tub which was a nice temperature but very overcrowded with kids playing in it due to the temperature of the pool. The fitness center was decent but did not open early enough for my husband who is an early riser, he had to wait for it to be open in the mornings which wasn’t ideal. Meal options were also disappointing when travelling with kids as food options were mainly located inside the casino floor with no minors allowed. Staff were all friendly and the hotel overall was clean. Starbucks on site was a great addition as I woke up to coffee every morning when my husband got back from the gym. Overall we would stay again as the location can’t be beat for what we needed but i will have more realistic expectations. I wouldn’t consider it to be a 4 star hotel though, maybe 2 or 3
Excellent service and staff. Close to airport. If you want to try your luck there's a bit of casino time. Close to really cool restaurants. Slept well and was not bothered by the airport sounds at all. Valet super amazing nice and helpful and accommodating.
I stayed at River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond and it was a really fun place to visit. The room I slept in was clean and comfy with big windows that showed the river and city from the bed. I liked how close it was to the train so it was easy to go into Vancouver and back again. The casino had lots of games and lights and it was exciting to walk around and look at all the slots and tables. There was also a big water slide and pool that my friends and I played in and we laughed a lot together. The restaurant had yummy food and the people who worked there were nice and helped us when we had questions. Some things, like parts of the hotel and the food options, felt a little old or could be better, but overall I had a happy stay and would go back for more fun.
Expected a lot more from the room given the price. Parking is confusing as hell but specific areas are included in the room rate (sometimes) Gift shop had very limited sizes and options - very gimicky. Labelling (like to the conference building and parking types) could be better. Staff was nice. Nice views from 9th floor and up
