Holiday Inn Express & Suites Riverport Richmond offers a convenient location near Vancouver Airport and the US border, with solid service and a useful complimentary breakfast, however, recent reviews highlight significant cleanliness concerns and dated facilities. While staff are friendly and helpful, the property appears to be struggling to maintain its expected standard.
We had a wonderful stay at Holiday Inn Express & Suites Riverport Richmond. A special thank you to Akul at reception for handling our check-in so smoothly and professionally. We also appreciate Juvy, the breakfast manager, for providing excellent service and ensuring everything was well organized each morning. Both team members were friendly, attentive, and made our stay even more enjoyable. Their outstanding hospitality truly stood out. Highly recommended, and we look forward to staying here again!
Stayed here while filming for Crash Course Hotels. Favorite feature: The suite kitchen is genuinely impressive — full-size fridge and freezer, stovetop, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, and a full set of utensils and dishes. One of the best-equipped hotel kitchens in the catalog. Amenities: Gym: Yes (small but has a scale) Pool: Yes (indoor, heated) Jacuzzi: Yes Basketball Court: Yes Self-Service Laundry: Yes Breakfast: Yes (included, basic) ATM: Yes (lobby — safe to use) Convenience Store: Yes (lobby) Suite layout with separate bedroom and living area — comfortable and well set up for longer stays. Bathroom is on the smaller side but everything you need is there, including a hairdryer already at the sink. IHG status was recognized with the upgrade, which was a nice touch. Lobby is compact but practical — the in-lobby ATM and convenience store are genuinely useful for late arrivals. Basketball court was an unexpected find and was actually being used during the stay. Self-service laundry is well laid out with folding counter space. Basic breakfast covers the essentials — hash browns, sausage, pancakes, cinnamon rolls. Good location for a Vancouver Airport layover or extended stay. Full video review available on the Crash Course Hotels YouTube channel.
The staff at this location are very friendly and willing to go the extra mile to help. The area is nice with restaurants and close to the highway entrance and just far enough outside the city. This location was just not quite up to my cleanliness standards. We noticed residue flung on the wall by the beds and in the bathroom by the mirror. The tub was old so there are stains, some of the light fixtures are broken, the bed headboard is super dusty, and upon leaving we noticed lots of crumbs in the carpet, so it hasn’t been vacuumed in a while. There is a pool and it seemed clean, though again you could tell it was just old and the bottom of the pool itself is a bit discolored. There were also only three towels in our room even though there were four of us booked for the room. The mattresses are super stiff and difficult to sleep on if you aren’t used to hard beds. There is a free breakfast which is nice, some of the items were just a tad overcooked (the scrambled eggs). The manger helped us with gluten free options and was super nice, she went out of her way to toast the bread in the oven to avoid cross contamination. I wouldn’t stay here again based on the value versus the price, but I do appreciate how nice the staff at this location are.
I am genuinely surprised this hotel still manages to hold a 3-star rating. And even more surprised that it continues to operate under the Holiday Inn banner. For context, I’m a Gold Elite member, so this is far from my first hotel experience. If you’ve ever wanted to experience medieval living with modern pricing, this is the place for you. The furniture, lighting, and occasional spider-web décor really help transport guests back several centuries. The room also comes with a fun treasure-hunt feature. Under my “freshly prepared” bed, I discovered a long gray hair, with a bonus one waiting on the towel. Truly immersive hospitality. The bed itself deserves special recognition. It will give you feeling that you are in a Jacuzzi. So safe for people who might be scared of falling over from the bed. Now let’s discuss value. At approximately 300 CAD per night, this stay was nothing short of a masterclass in disappointment. I booked blindly because I assumed Holiday Inn maintained a certain standard. I’ve stayed in small bed-and-breakfasts that delivered cleaner rooms, better comfort, and far more dignity for half the price. I’m writing this for travelers, especially those visiting Vancouver during the World Cup season — who might book this property expecting the usual Holiday Inn experience. Lower your expectations dramatically, or better yet, book elsewhere.
This hotel is at a great location with competitive rates! Not too far from all the tourist sites in Vancouver and close enough to the border for day trips to Seattle and other places. The service here is excellent. Check-in was very smooth. They even provided some coupons and ideas for tourist attractions and places to visit. The complimentary breakfast was very good. The protein options rotated daily. They had all the classics too (eggs, bread, oatmeal, fruit etc.). For us, complimentary breakfast was a big deal when choosing a hotel. They didn’t disappoint. Though we chose not to have our room cleaned everyday. When we did request, we returned to an impressively clean room. They have plenty of parking too if you plan to have a rental car.
